Welcome to Wicklow Nature...

Declan Murphy is a Wicklow-based author. Wicklow is often referred to as 'The Garden of Ireland', and has a lot to offer to anyone interested in nature.

Declan's first book, A Life in the Trees, (2017), follows the lives of Great Spotted Woodpeckers as they strive to colonize Ireland for the first time.
His second book, The Spirit of the River (2021), follows the lives of a family of Kingfishers.

Both books are set along the banks of the Avonmore river near the picturesque and world famous Glendalough valley in The Wicklow Mountains National Park. Each is a partial memoir and explores the natural world around us throughout Declan's life as well as the present.

Declan has enjoyed the flora and fauna of Wicklow since he was a boy; from its stony beaches, that offer a home to Ireland's endangered Little Terns, to the oak woods in the Wicklow Mountains, which provide a habitat for the Great Spotted Woodpecker.

Declan is equally at home watching a fox hunting a rabbit as listening to the dawn chorus unfolding across the glens of Wicklow. He has a wonderful ability to express his enthusiasm through his writing and his presentations.
